College graduations provide faculty the opportunity to honor students who invest four years of hard work, but COVID restrictions have eliminated that experience for many. When the University of Minnesota announced that there would be no in-person commencement, Chabad organized a ceremony for students and their families.
“We have become very close after spending four years together and got to celebrate each other’s accomplishments in a very intimate way, “said Shaina Kravitz, the President of the Chabad student board and a graduating nursing student.
More than 120 people attended the outdoor, COVID-friendly event, including 40 graduating students. Rabbi Yitzi and Chavie Steiner, the shluchim at UofM, presented each student with a tzedakah box and a copy of Advice for Life.
