Preliminary reports cite ax-wielding assailants
JERUSALEM—At least three people were killed and three others injured, two of them critically, in a suspected terror attack in the predominantly religious Israeli city of Elad on Thursday. An emergency team member said there were two assailants who carried out the killing spree that began on a city street and continued in the city park.
Elad’s mayor called on residents to remain in their homes. Unconfirmed reports from witnesses claimed at least one assailant was seen carrying a hatchet and attacking passersby.
According to the police, the attack may have spanned a number of locations in the city’s park. additional forces were on their way to the scene.
Roadblocks have been set up and the police were searching for a vehicle seen leaving the area at great speed, the police said.
Calls have been issued for people to say Psalms in the merit of the injured.
