At the 1980 Lag BaOmer parade, the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, surprised the 20,000 spectators and those listening via audio transmission when he suddenly began speaking in Russian. In his 17 minute talk, he sent a message of hope to the Jews behind the Iron Curtain and an unambiguous notice to the Kremlin.
